The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville provides top quality research services to a multitude of clients on local, state, and national levels. In 2009, the College of Social Work’s Office of Research and Public Service (SWORPS) acquired the Social Science Research Institute (SSRI), renaming it CARE. Under the direction of Linda Daugherty, who oversaw SSRI projects for over seven years and serves as CARE’s Assistant Director, SSRI staff have successfully accommodated the survey research needs of a wide range of customers in the fields of social work, transportation, civil engineering, public health, education, child care, human services, and exercise science, among others.
Our expertise allows us to be involved at any stage of a project, from research design to implementation, analysis, and reporting. Our data-collection strategies are tailored to meet the specific needs of each client for managing information and answering important research questions. SWORPS has the latest technological tools available that allow the Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) survey research team and SWORPS’s program evaluators and researchers to provide cutting-edge services. In addition, the SWORPS systems engineering group provides services to CARE. The team is experienced in successfully developing database and information management solutions using mobile, web-based, desktop, and client-server technologies.
The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) works collaboratively with its clients to assure that evaluation information can be used to guide decision-making and improve program effectiveness and efficiency. We measure our success by how our work affects the populations that comprise our studies and how well we meet our clients’ needs. The data we collect are used to make policy decisions based on input from the public, and the recommendations that SWORPS’s evaluators and researchers present to policy makers and key stakeholders are highly valued and respected. The Center for Applied Research and Evaluation (CARE) has successfully completed research projects that have varied widely in scope, methodology, and complexity. CARE has been especially successful with recruiting and interviewing hard-to-reach populations.
